If that's truly the case, that's sad.

I find it more likely they thought they were making good television. Not sure which is worse.

I know it feels like this is the reason, but honestly, I doubt it. The show's always been kind of shaky in terms of writing and plotting but season three went off the rails. My guess is that they wanted to end it with a bang but made a lot of poor judgment calls.
