(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)I dislike it in PUBLISHED works. I think it's stupid and editors should be editing it out.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)It would however take me out of the story for brief while though.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)I understand having a pet peeve, but an author's choice in how to spell alternate spellings doesn't speak to their quality of writing. If they'd used cum as a verb instead of a noun, I'd understand your disgust.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)but I kind of think that if you use it in the context of pony porn it's okay. Only, when I'm reading a story with serious plot and then the Sex scene changes tone that way... completely turns me off

I'm with you, OP, I hate 'cum'. It just feels cringeworthy to me. It's not an instant backbutton, I mean, if a writer is good, then I can overlook it, but if I see it once, then I'm far more likely to skip over the writer's other sex scenes to avoid seeing it.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 06:43 am (UTC)(link)Like many others in this thread, I won't necessarily back button when I see it, but what I will do, almost every time this happens, is I'll c/p the fic into a Word document and then do a find-and-replace. I'll even take the time to approve each of the changes individually, so that no other instances of the letters c-u-m get changed accidentally.
I will do this even for longer fics.
It's worth it.
