I HAVE seen some of them go on about how they love female characters more and that makes them more progressive, but I didn't really connect that with shipping.
In the end I think how 'progressive' a fan is definitely can't be determined simply by whether they lean toward slash, het, or femslash though. Even with femslash, which is both queer and about women (so girls aren't being ignored like they often are in slash and even het), you still see some gross shit.
