Seriously, I hate this trope. It's meant to be cute, but it's just annoying instead. This is not even how coffee works. Sure, it will give you a short-term boost, but unless you consume literally litres of it, it won't energize you for long, much less for the whole day. Tea is actually a better energizer, and I've never seen tea-drinkers behave like tea is their life-saving fuel.

I just *despise* the 'staggering around, monosyllabic, half-asleep' thing. Huh? I literally know *no one* like that in my life - never have. It's just...ridiculous.

::raises hand:: That would be me. Glad to know you.

Well, that's a huge bummer for you, then, I imagine.

haha, I actually know someone like that. I don't care for the trope though.

I just...have never met one single person in my entire life who is like that. It just seems way too exaggerated and played for 'cute', and since I don't find it cute at all....

Meh.

She's like a zombie until she arrives at her office and has a cup of coffee there. So functioning - even driving a car - but on auto pilot.

I find that weird and kind of dangerous. Yeesh.

What is Life without coffee, alcohol and cannabis?

Here's a Wiki quote: Cannabis is a popular recreational drug around the world, only behind alcohol, caffeine and tobacco.

It's all drugs, all of it.

People driving to work half asleep are dangerous.

I get a feeling that you didn't even read what I wrote here. Or I'm being really unclear.
Going to bed anyway.

You wrote about drugs, which was...kind of out of the blue. I thought you had also written about a friend driving to work a 'zombie' without coffee. Perhaps that wasn't you, but I thought it was and the 'coffee/pot/alcohol are drugs' comment seemed very odd in light of that discussion.

You're right, my bad.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You're ignoring people who have caffeine withdrawal if they don't drink their morning coffee and the fact that caffeine affects people differently.

But it sure is a lot easier to just say, "that's not a thing because I personally haven't seen it," isn't it?

Yep, I'm one of those people. Physically addicted to coffee, if I don't have it in the morning a migraine is sure to follow, and I have a hard time waking up without it.

But hey, apparently I only exist in AU fanfic (an AU trope I don't even care for myself.) What a surprise.
