Re: Your most problematic CANON otps
It has a little bit of everything: abuse, attempted murder (multiple times, on both characters parts), Hannibal being Satan, cannibalism, emotional manipulation up the wazoo, what I think could be described as stockholm syndrome (technically Will can already empathize with serial killers when he meets Hannibal, and Hannibal doesn't exactly capture him but...it still feels like a grey area), god knows what else.
And I do love them together, a lot, largely because of how much shit they put each other through and how deep their feelings for each other are. It might not be right, but yea, I find it fascinating.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-16 01:35 am (UTC)(link)This was definitely the first pairing that sprung to mind for me, though. It's just really fantastic in how it manages to portray a badly damaged relationship between messed up people, and how near-inevitable it all is.
Re: Your most problematic CANON otps
That's what I was thinking, yea. Even if the actors believe it to be canon and the directors all but say it's canon, there's always going to be someone who says, "If it isn't explicitly stated in the show, it isn't canon." (Some people might think it isn't canon because there's no kiss, or because Will never says the words "I love you" to Hannibal, but to me that doesn't matter, nor is it a good indication of feelings between these two. Romantic love doesn't have to be sexual, and people can indicate they love each other without saying those three words. I mean...I kinda get why people would want 'proof', but this isn't just two guys looking at each other for three seconds and people screaming, "THEY'RE SO GAY; CANON!")
Now I think their messed up love is very explicit, but there are people who feel differently. (Like that dude with the poll that fandom got so pissed at. That guy had only seen like two episodes though, so I wouldn't put much stock in his observations anyway; he is of course allowed his opinion, but...two episodes doesn't really allow you to fully grasp their whole dynamic.)
Near-inevitable is a fitting way to describe them. I keep thinking that when I see gifsets of them from the first season; it doesn't seem like there was much other way their relationship could have went. I think Will was doomed from the start.
