I am going to be wrapping up X-Files soon. I am on Season 6 and knowing that the remaining seasons are sort of bad, I will be skipping most non-essential episodes.

So, I am trying to decide what show to watch next. I have access to HBO, Amazon Prime, and HBO Go (plus the internet). I'd rather watch something that is a bit less dense in the mythos area. Preferably nothing without a lot of cringy humor. Hot guys and a large fandom are a bonus!

If you have never seen Scrubs, then Scrubs.

That was my show before X-Files! I got mad at it when JD and Elliot hooked up again and stopped watching.

Uhhhhh... then Orange Is The New Black?

It's not particularly cringey. I can't handle the secondhand embarrassment either.

I haven't seen it but I've heard good things about Black Sails.

It seems to have pretty good reviews! I am going to watch the first episode of each of these shows to see which I like best.

Sense8. However, I have to give the warning that the first two episodes are confusing, but things get much more explained in the third episode. It has the literary thingie of following the story as the characters find things out, rather than showing the viewers while keeping the characters in the dark. Promise, it is worth it.

Basic premise is that there are clusters of people, I think about 8, who are psychically connected. They can step into each other's bodies, so what happens a lot is one of them gets in trouble they can't handle, and one of the other members of the cluster who can steps into the body and takes over. This is especially awesome when you notice things like Sun (martial artist) and Michael (cop) both stepping in, because the cluster-mate they're stepping into will bounce between fighting styles. It's very subtle but if you notice it, it is pretty damn cool. Also, it must confuse the fuck out of whoever they're fighting.

Magnificent Seven tv show (not sure if it's available but definitely lots of hot guys and a lot of fic)

I've thought about watching the Flash or Green Arrow (I think is the name). Should I watch one before the other? I have not watched any of the DC shows (and was not a fan of Agents of SHIELD).

Daredevil, if you haven't already.

Broadchurch (the Tennant one) - it's very self-contained.

I've seen Daredevil and I loved it!

I do like the music from Broadchurch, and I love David Tennant. Is it just 2 seasons or will there be more?

I'm seconding Pushing Daisies because it's a fairly short show, so it's not a big commitment. Fandom's a bit harder to find but it's such a whimsical show.

Oh! I did not realize it had two seasons. I thought it was canceled like...in the middle of the first season, so I always avoided it.

Elementary - I've really liked watching Sherlock's growth over the seasons. Joan is awesome and I adore both of the other main characters.

Leverage - really fun, great ensemble.

I'll throw NCIS New Orleans out there too, just because it's brainless popcorn drama. It's just starting the second season so there's not a big commitment. Scott Bakula's the main character.

Ooh. Leverage. I think I've seen a good bit of it, but I know I have not seen all of it. Maybe this is my time!

You might enjoy Burn Notice? The first few seasons of it, anyway; I gave up after season 5 but loved almost all of it until then.

I think my sister liked it. I will ask her about it!

I am going to rec Legend of the Seeker, because I just binge-watched a bunch of episodes and they are still fresh in my mind.

Pros:
+ not super dense mythos-wise
+ doesn't have cringe comedy
+ cast is full of gorgeous people
+ decent sized fandom; not too big, not too small (1.2k fics on AO3 and 1.4k on FF.net, to give you an idea)
+ protagonists are likeable
+ wizards

Cons:
- cancelled after season two :(
- the books it's based on are terrible

Might be either a pro or con depending on your tastes:

Elementary - Even if you don't care for Sherlock Holmes, this is a pretty good AU and very thoughtfully written. The Sherlock/Joan partnership is a great one to watch as it develops, and this version of Sherlock learns from his mistakes.

Great British Bake Off - I think season 5 is on Netflix now? Any season is pretty good, though. Lovely baking competition show where people are lovely and nice and there's silly food puns and delicious food.

Inspector Morse - oldie but a goodie, crime drama set in Oxford. As a bonus, there are spin offs that are also good: Endeavour, set in the 60s, and Lewis, set in modern times.

Foyle's War - gorgeous WWII era period mysteries with a thoughtful, smart detective who tries to be a good man above all things.

Orphan Black - SF/thriller with an amazing cast

Fringe - Probably the closest contemporary to X-Files in some ways, but more SF centric. Another amazing cast, very trippy plots.

Veronica Mars - a modern day Nancy Drew, with a sassy girl detective trying to solve the mystery of her best friend's murder.

No! Really! I used to think they're bad but some of the nonessential (monster of the week/non-mainstory) episodes of the later three seasons are the best in the whole show! What's bad is the wrapup of the main story. Upon rewatches I tend to skip THEM.
