I've tried soft lenses before (the ones you can wear for a month or so I think?) this was like 6 years ago though.

My astigmatism really messes with my depth perception and I could never get the same quality of vision with contacts as I did with glasses. Also, if my glasses get gross I can wipe them off, I hate having to fuck around with eyedrops and nonsense.
Taking them out and putting them in is really just repetition. I actually find it easier to do it by feel than looking in a mirror. Looking past my fingers at the mirror just made me more aware of the giant finger about to poke me in the eye and I couldn't handle it.

I don't know much about surgery, sorry. You could ask for a referral to the surgeon they recommend to talk about your options and discuss the procedure. They would probably be the best person to answer your questions.
