I still kinda think a modernised, upgraded and plot-holes-cleaned-up remake of Weiß Kreuz could work.

I don't know much about it, so what do some people think would make it not work?

Weiss Kreuz is kind of a mess. I adore it, but it's a mess. The animation is very 90s (stills with flashes on it for being punched yay!), I mean there's the whole campy element that it's about 4 pretty boys who are florists during the day and assassins by night, and the plot basically involves everybody being related to everybody else.

I do love it, though, and I would really like to see good remake of it, too.

Ideally, they'd do some rethinking of some of the villains, and go a little less ~shocking~ with some of them (I am so over anime where you have villains who hunt humans for sport, for example. Find a new evil hobby, villains).

Haha, my favorite part of the end was that Aya seemed to overcome Schwartz's mind powers by sheer force of disbelief/not giving a shit. That was great.

Sure, not all, but ... really? Krankenhaus (hospital) for the organ trafficking group was where I finally lost it haha!

Aya is always a bit overpowered but on the other hand, just suddenly throwing in villains with psychic powers was a bit much as well.

Oh god, Krankenhaus. Yes, they totally went overboard with the German stuff XD

I'm not even going to lie, I love Weiss Kreuz and not ironically. I just love it. It's hilarious, and I love the characters. I recall there being some really good fics back in the day, too.
The psychic powers really was pretty random, because until then things were... sort of realistic? But once you've got the psychic powers, they had to find a way for Weiss to believably defeat them. I guess "what the hell, it's Aya, he can do everything" works for that... because Weiss developing psychic powers too would have been ridiculous. Though, in a better show (like the fantasy remake), Weiss would actually figure out clever ways around their psychic abilities without resorting to Aya. (though I did used to jokingly headcanon that Aya is actually psychic himself, and his power is cancelling out other powers)
But remember that episode with Nagi and Tot? That was actually so sweet.

Oh I absolutely agree. I think it's also a huge nostalgia thing for me - it was one of the very first anime series I owned the DVDs of (my mother and a friend's mother even were super nice and bought them for us because they were rated Mature haha!).

And YES to the good fic. There was a Gen fic centered on Ken that I absolutely loved and I found it again a while ago and saved it to my kindle so I won't lose it.

It was sort of realistic (even though I keep forgetting that it was actually set sometime in the future. But that's okay because thecreators seemed to forget it as well.)

Aya having that power would actually work really well!

And yeah, that episode was sweet. The show did have it's moments, all weird/ridiculous/OTT issues aside.

I also actually really liked one of the manga sequels (Weiß Side B) - if only because it was a shipper's dream come true for me haha!

It was one of my early series too (though I can't for the life of me remember how I stumbled across it...). I gave it to my younger sisters relatively early on, before they had watched too much other stuff, so that they wouldn't get turned off by the camp and OTT but would still be able to enjoy it.
I've kind of been binging on old fandoms lately - maybe I'll go read some WK fanfics. Got a link to that genfic?

I think one of my favorite parts was Verbrechen and Strafe. The plot was crazy iirc, but it had the good character designs and good animation. (Gluhen, though... wtf)

...I take it you ship/ped Aya/Ken?

Far as I remember, they had to change the designs because of a copyright dispute with the character designer. Didn't change much for Ken - he always stayed the same more or less, but I was glad he lost that damn sweater he had tied around his waist. That drove me nuts. It was such an accident waiting to happen in a fight haha! But that weird braid on Aya and the short hair on Yojhi. Although I generally always preferred the dark hair from the manga on Yohji.

(haha, yes. Aya/Ken was my absolute OTP - and it was pretty rare. Fandom was very set on Aya/Yohji and Ken/Omi...)

Yeah, it was copyright issues. Still, doesn't change the fact that they were pretty ugly... the only one who looked okay was Ken. I didn't mind Yohji's dark hair, it's just that short cut with the cowboy hat was godawful.
Haaa idk, the sweater was kind of cute. It's not like most of them actually dressed logically.

You know, thinking back, I'm pretty sure that Aya/Ken was my preferred ship, too. I wasn't crazy about Yohji in general, he was probably my least favorite. I mean, I think they also complement each other the best, you know? Aya does not know how to let go or relax, and Ken is probably the most balanced of the four of them, at least during the WK anime. He had his issues, but he also worked at getting over them.

Ketita explained it very well - it mostly gets used nowadays as an example for ridiculous, OTT low quality yaoi fangirl bait.
