Stuff You Want Remakes Of?

Movies, video games, TV shows, whatever.

I'd love a Neverending Story remake. I adored it as a kid but as an adult, I realized it has some very long and boring parts. I think they could really do some great stuff today with CGI today.

I also sort of want a Labyrinth remake because I think Lee Pace would make a great Jareth.

I think that would be tough. Mostly because of people going, BUT MY NOSTALGIA! Though, Disney has been doing a lot of remakes (they are usually dark remakes though).

I dunno if it's necessarily a remake, but I always thought it would be cool if the Wizard of Oz got remade to be more in the tone of Return to Oz.

The Dungeons and Dragons cartoon... maybe... if it was guaranteed to be good.

For games, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Tales of Eternia.

I have no knowledge of Return to Oz, is it darker?

I think D&D might be too hard to adapt. But maybe the Warcraft movie will change things!

Space Quest, or just about any of the Sierra games (or Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island). I'd love to have a remake with upgraded graphics.

I would adore a NIMH remake that sticks closer to the books.

Mostly because I like the book characterizations of the Frisby children better than the movie. especially Timothy being adorkable and nerdy.

And Racso/Isabella. God, I shipped that before I knew shipping was a thing.

The Hobbit

I'd like one that was a good movie. It would be nice if it was more faithful to the book but as long as it's a good movie, that's all I want.

The animated movie is supposed to be pretty good! I remember my brother was obsessed with it.

I still kinda think a modernised, upgraded and plot-holes-cleaned-up remake of Weiß Kreuz could work.

Interestingly enough one of my choices for a remake, System Shock 1, is getting a remake.

Which is awesome for two reasons. One: the game is kind of inaccessible to modern players, even though the Enhanced version on GoG has a bunch of mods integrated into it to improve the controls a bunch. Two: It's annoying certain members of the fandom.

Lee Pace?

OK, I admit I gave up on The Hobbit Trilogy after one movie, but I mainly know Lee Pace as the baker guy on Pushing Daisies. I don't see either the menace or the swagger to be Jareth in him.

SUPERMAN

Still waiting for a movie that's upbeat and happy, where Superman loves being a superhero and is a nice sweet earnest guy who's as much Clark as he is Superman, and where Lois is a total BAMF while being kind of dickish and abrasive like she was in the Golden and Bronze/Dark Age comics (bonus if, as in the comics, she falls in love with Clark and not Superman), and where Lex Luthor is immensely serious and scary and cold and threatening and influential and obsessive.

Superman being a joyful guy and superheroing being portrayed as idealistic and whimsical and a good thing and not at all pseudo-"realistic" and cynical and grimdark and ~edgy~, even if there are some difficult or heartbreaking aspects to it, being the biggest point. Think more "The Incredibles" and much, much, much less "Man of Steel."

I still love the 1978 movie but it's kind of outdated when it comes to Lois and Luthor's characterization and the Superman/Clark identity stuff, not to mention the special effects. There's a lot of more recent interesting material to cover.

(I would love it even more if it was set in the 1940s, but I know that would be a bit of stretch to sell in the real world.)

The Descendants of Darkness anime because it kinda ended on a cliffhanger and I don't know if the manga will ever get finished.

I'd like the Neverending Story to be remade, too -- as a miniseries and remaining faithful to the book from beginning to end.

Carnivale to be remade as a trilogy of books.

Profit, remade with Adrian Pasdar still in the title role.

The Crimson Petal and the White, this time with actors that actually fit the characters. None of them were right in the "original", NONE.

The Handmaid's Tale, just to remind the masses of its message.

I'd like a second remake of the old movie, The Lodger (I prefer the 1940s remake of the 1920s Hitchcock, too), but this time, don't fucking telegraph the identity of the Lodger in every single scene with no nuance whatsoever, okay??

Funny, that's how I felt about watching The Dark Crystal as an adult. Loved it as a kid, looooong and boring (though still cool looking) as an adult. But The Neverending Story is still a favorite.

I'd love an Earth 2 remake. That was a fun show with a lot of interesting possibilities and I think it could be really fun if redone today.

I'd like a new "The Relic". Preferably making the Mbwun look closer to the version of the book cover. The book is so vastly superior to that terrible movie they made of it and the monster was a huge disappointment.
