Re: talk about work thread
(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 12:21 am (UTC)(link)I had, a number of weeks back, an application come across my desk that was frankly a mess. I send a long involved email back to the person describing everything that was wrong and how to fix it / where they might be able to find the information they need. Couple of days later the application form comes back. Better but still a mess. Another long drawn out email back leads to another slightly less FUBAR application and so on and so forth. Business practice, btw, is to send out an automated email basically saying "Is wrong, Try again" for each attempt, not to contact them directly. But it seems like this person needs more in-depth help than that, right? So I figure I'll help them out. So this goes on for a few weeks, Customer crosses a deadline with the application, and it starts costing them money. We eventually get the application form right. and I take some steps to get the rest of the procedure done right fucking quick, trying to save them some money. Which I do. One day, I take a leak, and while I'm gone "workmate D" answers my phone. He says "Oh, I'm sorry, Anon is away from his desk right now, I'll have him get back to you as soon as possible" or something to this effect. I am pissing at this time so I don't know. He tells me of the phone call I send out an email saying "It's done, Here's the thing you need" and get an email back "Dear Anon and Workmate D, Thank you sooooo much for all the help..." and so on and so forth. The praise is being laid on terribly thick. Customer obviously very happy about my help. I think there was a line about naming his first born son after me. Ok not really, but it was a glowing email is my point. This email get's picked up by a boss, who passes it on to their boss, who passes it all the way up. Public commendations are given out to me AND Workmate D, who did dick all btw, but did do just enough that the customer knew his name and put it on the fucking email.
So I'm sharing credit I should have to. It sucks and I'm pissed and a bit bitter, but shit happens.
Down the line, the Big big boss wants to speak to one of us about the event, and as I am a newbie, and workmate D has years of experience, can you guess who the boss sits and chats to? Can you? So there I am, sitting a few chairs away while this dick-head soaks up the praise and answered questions about how he does the work. Big big boss asks the direct question "So How did you help this customer" and I watch as this mother-fucker lies and twists and bullshits his way through it with a bald fucking face. What can I do? Make a scene? Calling him lying sack of shit? Any protestations would look like, and in fact be, nothing but petty self-servingness. That's how you turn a glowing letter of praise into used toilet paper.
So now, as in today, this cheeky sod sits there and starts correcting my work. "You shouldn't do it this way, it should have been done that way" Thinks because he got to sit with the boss and play Mr Bigshit that suddenly his shits got big?? I mean I'm new, but I been at the job long enough to know how to do some stuff. and yeah, sure, I could do it his way, but my way works for me, and isn't causing any issues, so what the fuck is this about?
Ugh. Long email was fucking long but I am most unhappy.
