Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
To clear up a miscconception I saw earlier this week, it's not only trolls who are opposed to IP logging. I'm not a troll, but I am someone with diagnosed anxiety and OCD, and I haven't been able to comment all week because of the notice that IPs are logged. Just so you all know. I know it's useful, but the rallying to have it on permanently would suck for people other than trolls.

Also, nice to be back.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
How does IP logging affect anxiety and OCD? You do know that everything you do on the internet is monitored right?

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
The thing about it is, it's not rational. I can't help what flips the switch for me. I can write a long reply to someone and then notice that logging is on, and then I can't post it. Same thing for meaningless replies like "lol" and "yep". Just how it is.

Every dick pick anyone ever clicked is logged and cataloged by Yahoo. By now their algorithms know your tastes in man meat better than you and it working on a cache of Japanese hunks to fill your feed to you can clicketyclack them all night.

I can't for the life of me figure out how this string of words is in any way relevant to the comment you replied to. Are you lost?

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
The POINT is that everything you do is logged, categorized and algorithimized. Knowing an IP is NOTHING compared to what they already know about you and your sexy asian cock pics.

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
1) You're projecting your obsession with porno
2) I know there's no privacy. I have already explained that I know it's stupid, and I cannot do anything to change how I feel. OCD is not simply "gotta wash my hands 20 times". Please to be researching before being an ass. Here, I'll help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive%E2%80%93compulsive_disorder

I'm not going to respond to you further.

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
The anon's POINT is that it's about their anxiety, which is irrational and illogical, not about their carefully-thought-out preferences about some solid and realistic privacy issue.

LOL you think ip logging on freaking f!s is something to get hyper about?
you have any idea what google does with your search history, your emails?
trust me, f!s OMG KNOWING YOUR IP is pittance.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
See previous response. I am aware it's irrational. But that's how it is.

Have you considered a VPN? Cyberghost is a nice free one. Your IP will show up as your chosen location when you turn it on, easily turned off again.

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Don't go with free VPNs, they aren't safe. Go with a paid one instead. Five bucks a month should work fine.

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not that techy, honestly, so it's not something I've looked into so far. Offhand, without knowing much about it, it doesn't seem much better, particularly if the other anon's correct that I would need to get a paid service. Hmmm.

Rolling my eyes at other anon.

For the purpose of having the dreamwidth IP tracker (and others) record an incorrect IP with you, a free one is fine.

I suggested cyberghost because it is the most user friendly. You pick a country, you hit a button and go in the "free user queue" - about 1-2 minutes later you're pinging as from germany or something. Cyberghost does have a membership service to avoid queues and let you choose more fake locations, but unless you're doing some heavy duty anonymity it would not be necessary.

I wouldn't use it while checking your bank though, as your bank may think someone is hacking you and close your account and then you have to go to the bank and get it unlocked...>_>

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.

I hope the bank warning is not from personal experience?

Honestly, that's something that you have to work through. Most websites "log" you somehow. But Case having IP logging on doesn't mean he knows who you are, where exactly you live, nothing like that. Since you already acknowledge that it's irrational, which is the worse evil? Trolls spamming, stalking, bullying and harassing users, and ultimately making this place nasty and unenjoyable... or you working on your irrational fear?

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for assuming I'm not working on it. That was a helpful comment.

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT, but the above anon was not harsh or unkind in their comment. They were weighing the pros and cons of a troll problem with the comm vs a personal anxiety problem.

So I'm not sure what's up with the passive-aggressive.

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Mainly that the comment was irrelevant, because it didn't really anything that wasn't already pointed, and it was slightly insulting to boot.

*pointed out

Re: Just FYI

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said one way or the other if you were working on it, just that it is something you need to come to terms with (if you're going to use any website ever, really). I am saying that the troll problem is worse than your irrational fear of posting while IP logging is on.

How so? I read my post again and it seems very clear.
