I can't see how that guy is attractive. I mean, he's not ugly, but he's plain and dull looking imo

Well, he's got nice hair.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's flat and a bit frizzy at the end, though? I mean, it's clean - which is more than a lot of long-haired guys seem to manage, not stringy or badly cut. But it's also just kinda there?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Without knowing anything else about him, the hair would make me worry that he's the kind of nerd that tries to make the FLCS less friendly. Not that there aren't plenty of perfectly decent dudes with long, uncared-for hair, but.

Full disclosure: I have never met him IRL, just interacted a bit with him online and he's a friend-of-a-friend. (Plus I really dig his books.) I know what you're saying about that look but I'm pretty sure he's not one of Those Guys.

Oh, good! Even secondhand, it's always nice to hear confirmation that people are probably cool. :)

What is FLCS?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Friendly Local Comic Shop, sometimes used to refer to any local/independently-run comic store! Sometimes specifically such a store that tries to encourage a welcoming atmosphere towards all instead of fostering alpha-nerd bullshit.

It's okay, I don't really know what makes hair interesting. I just like long hair.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
... you just described my hair and I'm a woman. :(

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, to be honest, it's my hair, too - if I don't use any product or style it at all. And to be honest, while nicely kept long hair on guys is amazing, I'm a lot more critical of long hair on guys because so often it's not cared for properly and just looks bad. At any rate, I never said this dude had BAD hair, it's just... there? It doesn't make him attractive to me, but then, his overall appearance just doesn't do it for me personally.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems a little unkind to negatively single out a trait of his that you also share, but okay...?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? It's an aesthetic opinion. No need to take it personally.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, because it's hypocritical. If I'm short sighted and need glasses, it's a bit silly of me to hold that exact same problem against other people.

IA with the above poster. I feel like I judge guys with meh long hair much more than girls with meh long hair, just because guys are traditionally sanctioned the shorter styles that are actually easy to keep looking decent while women's shorter styles usually take more effort. Not that I actually judge people on their hair very much at all? I'll just notice a guy with less healthy/less styles long hair more than I would a girl with the same hair.
