Could it be you dislike over-saturation/juggernaut ships? Or the main fandom interpretation?

Is it all canon or just when the fandom really runs with it?

(ngl I like me some bubbeline but not so keen on fandoms bubbeline. I'm unfamiliar with your secret ships though. Ruby/sapphire is everywhere so I can see even shippers getting sick of it. Other 2 are ???)

It might just be that most people aren't really interested in the grand majority of mainstream/canon het ships either, but there are so freaking many of them that most of us will find *some* ships we like.

For example, if you're exposed to one hundred het pairings, even if you only like, let's say, 10% of them, that's still about ten pairings. But if you're only ever exposed to like... idk, five or so lesbian ships, because those aren't too common, then if you're still gonna find about 10% of them interesting, that means 0.5 pairings (so in practice, probably just one, or none at all).

I really like the third art, where is it from? (So pretty!)

Anyway...I don't know what to say really. Maybe you don't find the dynamics interesting, or maybe you just don't find them hot and that's important to you.

Most of my fandoms don't have big femslash ships; I wish I had more of them.

I feel like Jessica Jones is going to have a big one, but it isn't the one I'm into. (Can't say more without being spoilery.)

I GOTTA WATCH THAT SHOW.

As long as you are prepared for what might as well be Satan in human form, then please do! It's an excellent show, but ho fucking boy, people are not kidding when they say it contains a lot of serious, disturbing content.

I came out of it with two ships, one femslash.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't read Homestuck but I dont think Ruby/Sapphire or Undyne/Alphys are interesting pairings tbh. R&S are underdeveloped one-note characters while the U&A shippy bits in the game feel hasty and slapped on.

Out of the juggernaut lesbian ships I've seen so far I've only liked Marcie and PB...

I feel the same way. I'm not willing to jump into a franchise just because it has LGBT people anymore.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you a straight girl? Because if you are, I feel like a lack of interest in femslash ships could be fairly self explanatory and understandable. I know that people (myself included) tend to like to think we fall for the ships we do because of who the characters are as people and because of their unique dynamic with each other as people. But I'm straight* and no matter how much I'd like to, I have yet to be able to really feel all that much for any femslash pairings. I often think they're cool, and will express my support of them if asked, but that's about it.

It has nothing to do with how I feel about lesbians or bisexual women. It's not that I view lesbian sex or lesbian relationships as lesser in any way. It's also not that I view women as lesser in any way. I love women. I love girly women, and womanly women, and androgynous women. My favorite characters tend to be women. But the bottom line seems to be that in order to really ship it, I require there to be at least one male involved.

The weird part is that I don't ever want to have sex with the characters I ship - I only want them to have sex with each other. So I'm not sure why the sexual part of my psyche cares whether there's a guy involved; you'd think all that would matter is that the characters are attracted to each other. And yet, apparently it still matters somehow.

*I'm actually a fringe type of asexual, but I'm attracted to my ships, or through my ships, so I'm essentially straight for the purposes of this conversation.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I should probably acknowledge that of course many people do not require there to be a member of the/a gender they're attracted to in their ship. I know there are many lesbian women in fandom who ship slash, and my comment was in no way intended to dismiss or overlook their experiences. Nor do I want to overlook the straight women who do ship femslash, or gay men who ship femslash, or any other group.

Obviously not everyone's brain works in the same way, and not everyone experiences their sexuality/kinks/preferences/etc. in the same way. I just meant to say that some people may require at least one of the characters in their ship to be of the/a gender they are attracted to.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with this actually. I might enjoy the character dynamic of a lesbian ship and want them to get together, but when it comes to the pairings I get really into, there's at least one male character and part of the whole appeal is the attractiveness aspect.

(The odd thing for me is that I never really read/write/view smut with my ships - it's really never about porn for me, you wouldn't think the "sexy" aspect would matter, but it does. *giant shrug*)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm straight, I would never date another girl but I find it easier to appreciate lesbian ships. Gay men seem completely alien to me and I can't get inside their heads. Go figure.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm a straight male, and it's pretty hard for me to get invested in M/M relationships. I am continually bemused by fandom's love for making up M/M ships, because I'm not even into them when they are in canon.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

I'm cool with it, though, since it mirrors my relationship with f/f pretty exactly

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
This resonates with me, because I'm a bisexual woman who needs a pairing to have a woman in it for me to ship it. I can't do M/M at all.

Basically I'm the exact opposite of you.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
This is how I feel with most M/F ships! :'D

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Most femslash ships only get to juggernaut status because people see them as easily shippable for social justice points, not because they're interesting.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
dont care tbh

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, not really. Most people like these parings because they're cute and it's nice to see more bi/lesbian representation.
It's not that complex.
