(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)- Danny has shit luck. Poor kid can never catch a fucking break.
- Ghosts are all supervillains (snazzily or terribly dressed, superpowered, and with tragic backstories).
- Sam is the worst character ever and I hate her.
Especially that third point. I hate her so much she put me off the show entirely. The last straw was that one episode where it's revealed that she's Jewish, because OF FUCKING COURSE the worst character in cartoon history HAD to be Jewish.
Meyer Wolfsheim? Nah, forget that guy; Sam fucking Manson is so much more offensive to me.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)People you don't like who are Jewish will exist in real life. Being Jewish doesn't make them offensive.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)It's not JUST that I don't like her as a person. She's a badly written, obnoxious creator's pet who is always portrayed as right by the narrative even when she is clearly wrong, and to add insult to injury, her Jewish background was blatantly tacked on as an afterthought for BONUS DIVERSITY POINTS. It's a perfect example of tokenism at its worst.
Furthermore, I am not inherently opposed to there being Jewish characters who are loathsome people, but when nearly every Jewish character on TV is either: A) a loathsome person, B) a walking stereotype, or C) both, it gets irritating really quick.
For every well written, well developed, fleshed out character like Magneto there are ten cringeworthy caricatures like Howard Wolowitz. And that's depressing.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)Without she's pretty much your average super opinionated and outspoken ideal driven 14 year old who's obsessed with being unique and special.
I don't think she's a horrible awful human being any more than half the people I knew in high school were.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 01:23 am (UTC)(link)Dude, I am Jewish. That's a huge part of why she pisses me off so much. I wouldn't have nearly as much of a "hateboner", as you put it, if I didn't feel like she was yet another example of the media shitting on my people with embarrassing portrayals of us in fiction.
In retrospect I realize I probably should have clarified that earlier.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)DA but...
(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 01:51 am (UTC)(link)"every once in a while getting favoritism from the narrative "
Try constantly. All the other characters in the show get moments to realize they were wrong. Except Sam she always turns out to be "right and no one listened to her". Even Memory Blank ended with Danny realizing how much more he needs to appreciate her.
And then Urban Jungle, the one episode where they could have explored her flaws or had her be wrong, she has to be mind controlled -not smooth talked or convinced, mind controlled, into helping a bad guy who's thing is a more extreme version of the environmentalism she's been soapboxing about all through the show.
It seems like at almost no time or very rarely since the episode about the school dance, has Sam had to deal with being wrong.
