I personally think IV had a great story especially if you link it with Rhapsodia. It wasn't as grandiose as Sui1-2-3, but it was still a true Suikoden story. Maybe its just me but I loved how they brought back Ted, showed a bit of his past and the way he acted 300 years ago. The political play that was about gaining control of the archipalego was a solid plot too. SuiV really did feel like a "whatever" title. But then again, Tierkreis, even if it's a spinoff brought back that same old Sui feeling. It might look ugly, but the characters and the new world with the dimension jumping/merging together was a refreshing experience. Let alone the fact that we see the 108 stars failing.

So there were GOOD suikodens, but the small errors like SuiIVs extremely long shipjourneys and big fields, Tierkreis' dub from the hell, ruined it for many fans.

Was the dub even the problem with Tierkreis? I mean, the heroes are special people chosen by destiny, and the villains are bad because they believe in destiny. That's not ludonarrative dissonance, that's narrative-narrative dissonance.

The dub overall wasn't horrible, but the worst problem was with the main voice actor. He kept talking and yelling at the speed of light. I wouldn't have had a problem with it had it been, say, a lesser-known Star of Destiny who only has one spoken line in the entire game.

I wouldn't say heroes are "chosen by destiny." Destiny apparently chooses whoever the hell it feels like. In fact, some villains end up on your Tablet of Promise, including a few folks you end up fighting with to the bitter end (S3).
