But it was the late 1800's and early 1900's. Everyone was racist.
And if he had actual mental issues, then isn't hating him just condemning someone for their mental illness?

It's so hard to keep up Political Correctness these days.

He was markedly & notably racist even by the standards of his day. The background level of racism was higher, yes, but Lovecraft significantly exceeded that even for his time.

1) He was racist even for his time.

2) You can decide someone's face is inappropriate for an award without hating him.
