I don't want to be the dog, unless all your party members are also dogs and you can be some kind of glorious pack.

Mostly I just want more games where you can pet dogs.

EDIT for OP: btw you might be interested in Pom Gets WIFI? You definitely play as a dog, but it might not be exactly like what you're looking for.

I love that you can dress up your dog in Fallout 4. Incredible idea, game designers! (Said with complete sincerity, believe me.)

I like the idea of being a dog in a video game, but I'm not sure that many people could pull it off in a clever way. Done right, it could be lots of fun!

As for games with dogs, I've only played games where you could have a dog as a party member (Dragon Age: Origins) or games where you could pet them.

...Actually, I know you could briefly control a dog in Dead to Rights (an older game where you could take control of the dog to fit through certain areas that the protagonist couldn't go), but I don't remember how good the game was. The scores seem decent? (I think the dog also attacked your enemies.)

I had seen a kickstarter a while back about a sandbox game where you can play as a realistic dog in a big city and basically decide your own goals. Want to eat everything you can find? Want to be a bad dog and go around barking at people? Want to make friends with all of the other dogs? You can do whatever you want. I thought it looked pretty cute.

I also remember hearing about this kind of crime-based game where you play as an anthro dog who's looking for his girlfriend. I don't remember any details aside from the fact kickstarter backers had the option of putting their own dogs in the game as npcs.

Other than what's been mentioned earlier, you can always play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and only use dog Pokemon as a challenge or something.

I think it was called Home Free? I've got the Kickstarter bookmarked bit there's no website. Shame I didn't know about it earlier, would totally have supported to get my dog in game.

You might try Lord of the Rings Online. You can play as a Stalker, also known as a Warg, which is basically a big wolfdog. The game is Free To Play and Stalkers have access to two maps with lots of quests and things to see. Unfortunately, the Stalker is a PvP class, so you'll be fighting against Hobbits, Elves, Men, and Dwarves alongside such allies as giant spiders and orcs. If player-versus-player isn't your thing, I don't recommend it, but otherwise being a puppy in LOTRO is pretty spiffy. You can customize appearance, sills, and do cute little emotes. They're also a stealth class, so you can sneak around. I enjoy it, so you might, too!

Try Zelda: Twilight Princess, OP - especially when it comes out in HD. You get to play as a wolf. :)
