Huh. I just realized that I, too, am not okay with this in fanfic or headcanons, but have enjoyed some fanart of it and as part of a character's progression in canon.

Maybe the fanfic we've come across just hasn't been very good? Fanart allows you to build your own backstory, so you can imagine the character coming to dad-hood in a way that makes sense and works for you. Fanfic, on the other hand, provides a backstory, and that backstory can be disappointing.

As for headcanons, I always find them way too schmaltzy.
