I'm scared I might have BPD, but I don't want to tell anyone or even get a diagnosis because I feel like having it would make me a bad person, not to mention my brother has told me before he thinks our abusive father had BPD. Even if not BPD, I know there is something wrong with me, but if I don't get diagnosed I can pretend there isn't, at least to other people if not myself.

Having BPD doesn't make one abusive, nor is it an excuse for treating others like poop. Being diagnosed with it does not make you your father.

That said, whether or not you get diagnosed wouldn't change "whether or not" you had said disorder. And even if you think "something is wrong with you," it might not be the thing you think it is. Sometimes it's just better to know, because at least then you can deal with it first. But of course that isn't up to anyone but you.

Remember you are a person first, not a diagnosis.
