I'm thinking mostly fantasy or sci-fi characters, who have animal-ish ears/fur/paws/tail/etc or have things like super-smell or hearing or vocalizations and act a bit animal-ish about it.

This is NOT a furry thread. I don't mean furry-type stuff, I mean human(oid) characters whose fictional fantasy creature/alien features are sorta animal-ish.

Cat eyes are always cool, though idk if i'd go so far as 'hot'

More like cute rather than hot? I always thought Tiny!Gohan with that expressive fuzzy monkey tail from the first arc of Dragon Ball Z was the cutest thing ever. I would literally squee at the screen from the adorableness.

I've read fics where this has worke well. I do find elf ears hot.

How are elf ears remotely related to animals

I was just thinking in the sense of non-human ears. And they look kind of animal-like. They look more like cat ears than human ears.

As long as they're not ridiculous. PJ's take on elf ears was good, not over-done. Pictures I've seen of WoW? I can't stand elf ears that stick out like crazy.

For me, they don't usually add to or detract from the attractiveness experience. The frog girl from Boku no Hero Academia is cute though.

I remember thinking Inuyasha's doggy ears were super-cute, and same with the way he would snuffle all over the ground to get a scent just like a real dog. IDK if that counts as hot though - I was only a kid when I watched it, and the line between cute and hot was sort of blurry for me back then.

I like fangs and long fingernails/claws. The rest I'm not really into. I guess I don't like the skanky sexual aspect to catpeople but I used to really like the aesthetic in manga.

Sure, as long as it's not too furry (literally). But if it's humanoid it's fair game. Canines, pointy ears, claws and stuff an be cool.

I really like stripes or spots. I always like that about the Trill on Star Trek.

I might, but for me it probably wouldn't be about the animalism. If the character is humanoid and is hot (for a human), I would just find them hot regardless of gills or tails or whatnot.

You'd be surprised how much people care about the distinction.

Well, as the saying goes, "if your friends covered themselves in bullshit and ran down the street talking about how it doesn't stink, would you?"

Furry is a distinct type of art that always includes the face. The animal might have a humanoid shape, but they have animal faces - usually that gross, round muzzle, is what screams furry to me.

Having animal ears, or a tail, or paws, is not furry. Catgirls and such don't qualify.

I don't really like the physical animal features, but I'm all over the behavioral aspects/sounds/abilities. This is basically why I like werewolves 100% of the time.

Sometimes! Cat eyes, cat ears, tails, long claws, things like that can be appealing on the right character. (I immediately thought of Fran from Final Fantasy, lol.)

It depends, and based on what someone else in this thread said, I think what it depends on is the face. If the face is still human, I don't mind. The point where more animalistic features are included in the face starts to be where it gets thingy for me.

I tend to like the idea of my favorite characters with animal traits, and yeah, I guess I find it hot. But as others have said, it depends on how animalistic their appearance is. Whether the character's face is human is a big one, but I think the only hard rule is that the anatomy (joints, musculature, etc) has to be almost entirely human/humanoid. They have to stand on two legs, with a humanoid torso and two humanoid arms with humanoid hands, head and neck in the right place, genitals in the right place, and everything in about the right proportion.

But if I was going to read a smutty fic where one of the characters had a cat face and was covered in fur, I would definitely consider it a kind of challenge/experiment, like, "Can this writer straddle the line of this taboo and make it work, of will it just end up feeling like bestiality?" I would go into it tentatively, not raring to go.

But if it's something minimal like cat ears and a cat tail? Yes please.
