Personally, it's not that I won't ship friends, it's that I won't ship people who seem to be super dependent on the other person as their biggest source of friendship. I didn't ship Shawn/Gus, I didn't ship Kirk/McCoy in the new Star Trek movies, I can't ship Fitz/Simmons in AoS, I'm squicked hardcore by Barry/Iris in The Flash, and so on. I can ship people who are in an ensemble cast/friend group, but not best friends.
