By itself, I don't know. But depression isn't a thing that happens in a vacuum, so it's a moot point, really. Depressed people tend to comfort or stress eat more, they tend to eat more junk food (because cooking real food takes energy they don't have) and they tend to be less active.

You can stop it, assuming it's just the above reasons and not another health issue. Watch your diet and get some exercise, just like you would for any other weight loss goal.
