Captain America: Civil War trailer!

[personal profile] ketita 2015-11-25 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Did you see it? What do you think?

Personally, I think they're pushing the 'Civil War' aspect really hard without enough buildup. It kind of comes out of the blue for me. But I'm glad for all the Steve-Buckyness.
I am probably going to end up going to theaters for it, and I am preparing myself for disappointment.

Lmao yeah I feel you on the lack of build up - cause Steve and Tony don't have much of a relationship in the MCU so them fighting is whatever for me. "He was my friend" "So was I" ??? Were you???

BUT I LOVE ALL THE BUCKY I AM SO GLAD FOR BUCKY. I have more faith in the Russos to make a good movie than Whedon, sooooo...

Right? I mean when were Steve and Tony such great friends, exactly? In Avengers, where they spent half the time fighting? In AoU, where they spent half the time fighting? Civil War would have been a lot more painful if there was even a moment of debate over whether Cap would choose Bucky over Tony. The way the movies are there's really not a single question there. They should have built up Cap and Tony's friendship in the previous two movies so that tearing them apart would have some emotional significance.

I am definitely glad the Russos are helming this, like you. Pretty sure Whedon would have fucked it up.

I still think that without any mutants or another high number of superpowered heroes/villain/people in the picture, the whole thing really makes no proper sense/seems very forced. So I'm not really sure what to think of it other than "perhaps they shouldn't have chosen Civil War".

I think they're boiling it down to its base component, which was basically Tony and Steve having a slapfight. I doubt this will have much resemblance to the comics, if any.

I guess - doesn't even work that way because It's not like they were all that friendly with each other in the MCU, so the whole "OMG now they don't like each other anymore" is pretty lacklustre.

But eh, Age of Ultron was pretty disappointing already so, whatever.

The inhumans could count as a large number of superpowered people? But it seems unlikely they'd even get a mention and even if they do, it doesn't seem relevant to the Steve vs. Tony thing.

I think it's bit too late to introduce a lot of new elements considering that its not that long until the movie comes out - I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do it either way...

I think that centering it around Bucky was smart in that it /could/ be a serious moment of contention, and I can definitely see this Cap throwing away almost everything in order to protect Bucky.
But from there to outright 'civil war' is a stretch. Even in the trailer I had no idea where any of that came from. When did he have time to turn vigilante? It feels like made-up drama.
And Tony's line about how he thought he and Cap were friends made no sense, given the utter lack of friendship-buildup between them in the MCU...

I do think that this was a good route to take, but mostly because it was more or less the only route to take to get where they wanted - and even from there, it's a stretch.

I guess from what the trailer shows there will be a mix of the whole "hero registration act", some "I won't allow you to hurt my ex-brainwashed friend" and "I'm Tony Stark, I piss people off for no reason because lulz".

Absolutely agree about the friendship line - they just don't have the same backstory that the comic versions have and it's silly to force it in.

Point. That really is the only way to cause Civil War to happen at all, which just emphasizes that this is fundamentally a bit of a silly plotline for MCU.
What weirds me out is, they've known for a while now that they were doing Civil War - why the hell didn't they build up Tony and Cap's friendship, instead of having them be at loggerheads 100% of the time?

I guess from what the trailer shows there will be a mix of the whole "hero registration act", some "I won't allow you to hurt my ex-brainwashed friend" and "I'm Tony Stark, I piss people off for no reason because lulz".
Accurate. Especially point #3.

With X-Angst and Fantastic Four licensed to Fox, it means they have to start from scratch.

No mutants, no apocalypse.

No apocalypse, no Reed Richards going stupid over Isaac Asimov.

No Reed Richards going stupid, the franchise can focus on what's important:

Steve/Bucky/Sam slash.
