The what? How is it...wait, is this about the stupid elephant? It was about aesthetic and had nothing to do with anything religious or anything like that. Plus, being in the very very late 1800s, it's not unheard of to have ~exotic~ things from the "Orient."

Probably more the part about the show-within-a-show using elements of East Indian culture, although that absolutely is something that would have happened in the 1800s.

This is where the whole "context is important" part comes in. It does entirely fit within the framework of the story.

Oh I know. I had forgotten about the whole play setup and, knowing Tumblr especially, that would be their issue with it.
