Body Integrity Identity Disorder. And those are usually cases in which the patient is either a suicide risk due to their disorder or likely to carry out plans at home as an "accident". There've been a number who have. (Blame BMEZine's blog for my knowledge of this; I mostly read it for the pretty tat art and piercings but the blogger had a thing for the more extreme stuff, and ran several interviews with both people who had done it, and anonymously, extreme body mod professionals who helped them, way before this was a psychiatric diagnosis.)

There's no medication to treat it, and I've yet to hear a case of someone who's regretted it, even if I find it somewhat disturbing. I'm glad there's docs now, at least, who will help these people so they aren't risking severe damage if they did it themselves, same potential with someone in the body mod community (though I think the ones who did were former doctors, but still).

(If you've had a friend with this, you probably know all of it, I'm posting mainly for the benefit of above anons.)

We're not friends, exactly.

It's complicated. We have not been in contact for years. But he's in fact one of those who, well, took matters into his own hands. And honestly there was just a point where that shit was too weird fr me. But I know where he is now, and he seems happy, so whatever.
