He was awesome at the end, but up until then, imo, AC consisted mainly of a lot of Cloud looking pretty on a bike, Cloud looking pretty with a phone, Cloud looking pretty when talking, etc. It didn't really seem to me until the end that Cloud kicked ass and took names, but then, I spent most of AC thinking "wow this is super pretty and really boring," so my opinion on the movie is probably biased.

Maybe it just means that I've read way, way too much S/C fic, because I think I don't really register Cloud-angst until it reaches disturbing levels. xD I think it's become a fandom staple at this point. xDD

If I had to guess why, I'd say that it's probably so overdone because it's just plain easier to regress Cloud to having the emotional problems he did earlier in the game. It gives the author something to make him overcome, and something to further the plot a little. Writing "Let's mosey"!Cloud gives the author less of the simple, blatant emotional trauma to deal with.

Eh, I was incredibly entertained all the time, actually. I mean, the film starts with a fight!

Cloud has a tendency to brood, and that creepy illness created by the planet to rid itself of the rest of Jenova made it more than justified IMO.

I don't ship S/C (I like Vincent/Cloud, which pretty much doesn't exost in fandom), so when I do read it, the characterisation mostly seem wildly wrong to me. Not because of the ship, mind, but because of the things that have become "fanon" about it.

I'd say that it's probably so overdone because it's just plain easier to regress Cloud to having the emotional problems he did earlier in the game. It gives the author something to make him overcome, and something to further the plot a little.

Given Cloud's personality, I wouldn't think it'd be hard to give him new things to angst about. He's a bit prone to taking things to seriously, and assuming responsibility for things he can't really help... He can be dorky and angsty, really! He's got a rather complex personality; let's play with it a little. XD
