I think I'd be more interested in a companion that actually gives the doctor some shit instead of just fawning all over him.

Here's hoping that Donna will fit that bill. She seemed promising in TRB.

I kind of felt that Rose gave the Doctor a bit of...um...guff. She and the Doctor had a spark, but it wasn't fawning; that was Martha (who's gorgeous, but in a scary way, to me).
Donna's gonna rock.

Hee, yes, Doctor/Rose shipper here. But that doesn't change the fact that her romantic interest in him led her to overlook most of his faults and let him get away with more bullshit than she perhaps really ought to. For all her fawning, Martha was, if anything, better at putting him in his place. I cheered when she sat herself down at the end of Gridlock and refused to budge until he gave it to her straight. I liked them both (though I only shipped Rose) and I'm prepared to like Donna as well.

Hell, Jack and Mickey were awesome as well. All the New Skool Companions rock. (Adam doesn't count.)

Though none of them kick as much ass as Ace.

I think ideal Doctor/Rose was Nine/Rose, and in that ship, I don't think she overlooked his faults so much. But by season two, yeah, I can see it--they'd both sort of fallen into each other by that point and didn't push and pull so much.
Martha may've been better at it, but it's just hard for me to like her for so many reasons. I feel like the fawning was just such a disservice to her character--made her more like Girl 2.0 and didn't gel with her otherwise strong personality. I think part of why I'm prepared to like Donna more is because, well, she's not Martha and she's not Rose and maybe, just maybe, she won't be romantic with the Doctor at all.

But yay for Mickey love. Always. And Jack, but Jack gets plenty of love.

Well, you know what the Doctor's rule about companions is--he only takes the best.

Yes! Nine/Rose is my OTP is as well!

Well, you know, even strong women can be stupid about love. Though I had to roll my eyes at the "You just had to go and fall in love with a human and it wasn't me." Not the first time, Martha. Rose was more understanding about Reinette, and her thing with the Doctor was actually reciprocal. So, yeah, I was disappointed when the "posh lesbian ninja" thing turned out to just be a fandom meme. And, yes, Donna should be a breath of fresh air.
