Thomas from Downton Abbey, although it's more in the "ignore all the build up to the character development to keep the character stuck in the same old rut" category. LET THE POOR MAN BE LEAVE DOWNTON, GODAMMIT

Yeah, this is so damn true.

lol I don't even like Thomas all that much (well, okay, I stopped liking most of the characters after a while) and I still completely agree with this. His character got so fucked over in the last season; it was painful.

Ah, my favourite thing to complain about on Downton Abbey! Thomas is a whole shipload of wasted opportunities, writing- and character development- wise. So damn frustrating. Doesn't help that almost every character development he had got retconned at the beginning of each new season (or in some cases the episode directly afterwards). Or important things happening to the character get upstaged by banalities that get twice (or more) of the screentime. It's such a waste. I'm still hoping that after what happened in the last episode, Mary will leave Downton in the Christmas special and take Thomas with her as her personal Butler but that's just wishful thinking, I guess. (Thomas getting a shiny new lord with... similar proclivities to his own would have been my preferred outcome but hey, I was aware that this would never have happened anyway) I really don't see Thomas getting any happier staying at Downton.

God damnit, why wasn't I logged in?? Where did my formatting go?
Writing from a phone in the middle of the night: not the best idea I ever had.

ayrt

I agree with all of this but while we're at it, I hope the Christmas Special also reveals that Mary's marriage to Henry was some kind of terrible fever dream (I love Matthew Goode but fuck that boring-ass character)

It was definitely all a little rushed to be in any way a believable development... We know so little about him, it's silly.
I was in general kind of annoyed that they actually thought this whole "Ms Patmore had a scandal at her B&B" thing was something to put in the last ever regular episode.
