I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you aren't creepy to actual trans men and don't treat them like sex objects (and it doesn't sound like you're doing that).

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Regarding your bonus secret: Yes. That skeeves me out so much. If you're going to headcanon a character as a trans woman, why not a character who's already canonically a woman?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP but for me it would depend on how they did it. Lots of trans people could seem comfortable presenting as their assigned gender to fit in socially like gay people pretend to be straight to fit in. If they made it a story about a character being closeted it would make sense imo. If it's sudden and random about a male character that has never shown any discomfort and there's no explanation for comfortably presenting as male before, it's skeevy I agree.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Are you saying OP is skeevy for the bpnus secret or that writing male-presenting characters as transwomen is skeevy? If the later, here's a reality check, payable now: Not all transwomen have the resources to transition. Not all transwomen feel comfortable with their ability to pass and choose not to transition for safety or anxiety reasons.

And those women deserve representation too, even if it's just in somebody's fanfic. Stop erasing them so you can beat your chest about "canonical women" which is just a tiny step away from "actual women." This is feminism done wrong.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
You were going so strong, and then you lost it with those last two lines.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
which is just a tiny step away from "actual women."

No, it isn't.

Come back when you've learned how to logic.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think they were making fun of using the term 'canonical/actual women' when they used that. Which is why they used quotation marks

How is it illogical? Anon wants transwomen in fic to be based on "canonical" women, which, let's be real in almost all cases means women who are played by AFAB women. Obviously it's not a 1:1 comparison, but there's room for implications to be inferred. Hence, "a step away." And either way, the comment still exposes an opinion that seems to say certain types of transwomen are skeevy while propping up those who are able to look teally feminine. And that's wrong.

I guess as long as you aren't skeeving on actual trans men, whatever floats your boat, but that's... really creepy.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Do you find guys who fetishize trans women (or "shemales" or whatever the term they use now is) creepy too?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't they supposed to be? And I thought "shemale" was considered offensive?

(Different anon)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I do, yeah. As well as people, regardless of gender, who fetishize people because of their sexual orientation. If someone's fine with being seen as fetish fuel, that's their thing, but I think it's creepy. :/

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
the fact that for you it's just about our bodies feels a lot less disturbing and delegitimizing to me than the reasons most other people fetishize us, like that we're "in between" or "the best of both worlds". not sure how legit that is, but that's my take anyhow.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Creepy as fuck. Don't care that it's a secret. Fucking creepy.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
for what its worth, this secret made me feel kind of good as a transguy

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
lucky. it just made me feel worse for not being able to transition.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
good lord i hope you never interact with any out/openly trans guys irl. this is gross as fuck.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I get it. I especially get what OP's talking about with characters whose individual quirks are tied into their hypothetical trans status in fanworks. For instance, Dave Strider, from Homestuck, seems a bit brash and abrupt, and acts extremely cocksure, but is also peculiarly sensitive, and seems to have a disrupted sense of self on some level. When you move away from dialogue-only narrative, which is how HS is actually written, and try and get inside his head, he's obviously a really complex, interesting character. It's easy to imagine that there could be various reasons that he comes off unusually in conversation sometimes. He might be genuinely traumatised by his strange upbringing. He might live a seriously impoverished home life. He might have no memories before being thirteen, because video game logic. Maybe he drank the unfortunate apple juice from Act One. Or maybe he's trans. And maybe OP gets a little kick out of fanworks involving the kind of intimacy of the revelation, and, well, 'concealment' that headcanoning a character as privately or closetedly trans implies.

Like, this could totally have been a creepy secret. But the way OP tells it, I get it.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
that's a great justification except it's completely unrelated to what op actually says in the secret. like. they outright say the attraction is just because of the novelty of a guy, but with a vag.
like, i agree with your sentiment and people who actually put that level of thought into their fanworks are fantastic but, this secret is just op saying they see trans men as fap fodder.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as you mentioned the sex and the genitalia, I've already passed you off as one of those cisgender fetishizers. Good job. Being trans isn't just about what's in someone's pants.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing wrong with finding c*ntboys really really hot.

I have a lot of drawer fic of that. Especially because vaginas are sexy as fuck, but a lot of the tropes that go along with het romance or female characters are really really eh to me.

And I hate how if you like the way someone 'different' looks it's suddenly automatically fetishizing. "I like blonde girls with big tits!" "How normal" "I like muscular trans guys." "YOU MONSTER!" It's ok to find a physical feature or type sexy as long as you're aware there's a whole person attached to that.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
the fact that you're calling trans guys "cuntboys" is a pretty clear sign you're a fetishizing creep. OP may or may not be, but you sure are.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-28 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And you're an idiot. Trans guys are entirely different.

Trans guys are people or characters who were AFAB and then dealt with the life experience of having a body that doesn't fit their gender.

Cuntboys are men who happen to have a cunt. That's it. They never dealt with being misgendered, transitioning and the ups and downs involved, being stuck with a label and all the baggage that comes with.

It's like saying people who write werewolf porn probably fuck dogs, because they're totally the same thing.

Cuntboys are just the male version of dickgirls. That's why a lot of porny sites will have different categories for trans people and dickgirls/cuntboys because sometimes it's nice to have a fantasy about the kind of body you have being attractive without all the social implications.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-29 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
the secret was explicitly about trans guys, and you were the one who decided that meant cuntboys, creep
