Hm, for me OP, the movie ending made more sense than the book ending. The book was rushed just enough that when she killed coin (in the book) I didn't properly understand why (or who coin was, kept forgetting her name and therefore character).

But with the movie we got to see the Coin behind the scenes and we got to see Prim dying because of Coin/Gale*'s butterfly bomb being dropped on the masses (and if you happen to have forgotten about the bomb, Snow tells you in the gardens) then the second one going off when people "rush in to help the wounded". And we get to see Katniss realise that Prim is dead due to Coin/Gale AND Coin is going to set up the Hunger Games all over again. Do you really think Katniss would allow a hunger games just because they're capitol children? She tries to protect everyone on all sides. She just wants people to stop dying.

And when I read the book, I completely missed the bit about the butterfly bomb Gale helped with - and that Prim was going to be a medic rushing in to help survivors after battle. So seeing the lead ups of that in the cinema (much harder to accidentally miss for me) - the ending felt much more built up and a whole lot less confusing than the books.

*Gale really shot the romance and the friendship in the foot there, he was too violent and willing to take risks AND indirectly contributed to Prim dying :/
