Perhaps leaving the room and moving to a quiet place where your delicate sensibilities won't be disturbed by raucous television watchers might help?

that's exactly what i do. i can't be in the same room with this person because they do it every time.

thing is, i know it's not them being raucous because when they're alone in the room, i never hear a peep. it's only when other people walk in that they demand everyone else's attention. oh, it's not just at me btw. it's at everyone. they must have their attention and everyone must be engaged in their show

Have you tried asking them not to bother you? Or just plain stating you are not in the least bit interested in their show and would they mind shutting the fuck up about it already?

yes. they don't understand why i'm getting annoyed, they were just enjoying their show!! out loud, very loudly! which they never ever do when nobody is in the room with them. if you're in the room next to them where they can't see you but you can hear the tv, not a peep
