Isn't that the site that is so infamous for scamming its members out of the money they make?

You're thinking of PayPal, probably. It has a history of suddenly shutting down members' access to their own money.

It's not the site per se, but rather that a lot of patrons are actually bots set up by people who want to see things for free, so while the bot accounts say they're donating a certain amount to a Patreon, the creator's not actually getting the money.

At least that's what I remember from a Tumblr post a while back.
