Oh, the Food Network made that call ages ago. They started phasing out shows with actual chefs because they wanted to appeal to a wider demographic... and that demographic involves people who are easily intimidated by cooking. So instead, the network hires "personalities" instead of chefs, dumbs down the whole cooking thing so it looks like an activity even a chimp could do, and that's how you get people like Rachel Ray, Sandra Lee, Paula Deen and Guy Fieri.

Not a Rachel Ray fan but she worked for a market or a department store in upstate NY, doing cooking or something with food so it's not like they scooped her up off of the street or just found a cute lady and trained her.

Well sure, but she wasn't a chef, that was my point. A lot of the personalities on the Food Network have some background in food or cooking, but they weren't hired for their culinary expertise, they were hired because the network wanted a personality.
