I don't know what's the worst Food Network show anymore, as Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee and Money Saving Meals are off the air (I am aware of the recent news in regards to Sandra Lee's health and I'm pretty sure she's probably nice in person, but her culinary skills are questionable). The Pioneer Woman might go into that category (could be Food Network's excuse for fans of the network as a replacement for Paula Deen, due to the controversy surrounding her).

What ever happened to shows like "The French Chef", in which the host (i.e. Julia Child), tells you how to prep your meals, which cutlery/pans/choice of meat and ingredients to use and shows you how to do it well?

I'd rather watch Ina Garten, Lidia Bastianich, Martha Stewart, Giada, Valerie Bertinelli, or Trisha Yearwood.

The audience that Food Network is aiming towards finds that kind of thing intimidating and off-putting, and wants something more approachable and aspirational and suburban.

I just can't with Ina Garten since she snubbed the Make-A-Wish kid (yeah, yeah, it was her people, not her, blah blah)

She turned down the wish of a kid with leukemia who wanted to cook with her, twice, back in 2011 because she was "too busy".

Hmm, interesting. It's hard for me to judge based on this info alone why she didn't choose to meet with him and whether she's being an ass about it, but I definitely agree it was a bad decision from a publicity standpoint.

I'm glad the little boy found another wish that makes him happy and I don't blame his family for not wanting to meet with her now.

UGH, Ina Garten is so off-putting to me, her self-absorption is just...

But Ree and Ina are the two food shows that one of my aunts will watch, go figure. And between the two of them, I find Ree less objectionable.

Thank goodness for PBS, then! America's Test Kitchen all the way!

Oh, the Food Network made that call ages ago. They started phasing out shows with actual chefs because they wanted to appeal to a wider demographic... and that demographic involves people who are easily intimidated by cooking. So instead, the network hires "personalities" instead of chefs, dumbs down the whole cooking thing so it looks like an activity even a chimp could do, and that's how you get people like Rachel Ray, Sandra Lee, Paula Deen and Guy Fieri.

Not a Rachel Ray fan but she worked for a market or a department store in upstate NY, doing cooking or something with food so it's not like they scooped her up off of the street or just found a cute lady and trained her.

Well sure, but she wasn't a chef, that was my point. A lot of the personalities on the Food Network have some background in food or cooking, but they weren't hired for their culinary expertise, they were hired because the network wanted a personality.
