Re: Ugh. Let's talk about periods
(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 05:00 am (UTC)(link)For the record, and you probably know this, but not all women suffer from their periods or even have to pay much attention to them.
Ah, yeah, no, I should have been clearer, sorry-- I'm going by the fact that pretty much all of the women in my family have pretty debilitating cramps with theirs, so I could only assume I'd be much the same. I have two sisters and a lot of cis-female friends, so I know quite a bit about periods!
Re: Ugh. Let's talk about periods
(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 05:19 am (UTC)(link)In fact, looking at what I said, it kind of seemed like I was saying you might not know things other women know, which wasn't great of me and I apologize.
I guess I sometimes wonder if everybody, including cis women, know that plenty of women have mild periods. Because so much of the talk is about how awful they are, to the point where sometimes I start to wonder if I'm this weird, rare, lucky person. I mean, apart from the thread that sprung up below in response to this one, I've never seen a conversation where women talk about how low-key and painless their periods are. I guess because it's not like it's something we need to vent or get moral support for.
But I expressed it kinda badly.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 05:36 am (UTC)(link)And yeah, I think you kind of hit the nail on the head-- not to sink to clichés, but misery loves company, so it makes sense that people with shitty periods will band together to commiserate about it and lend support, where I suppose there isn't as much to say about an easy one.
