[Star Wars: The Old Republic]

Star Wars fandom in general is pretty racist, tho', whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

"Stormtroopers can't be black", anyone? Or when Lupita Nyongo was cast in the new movie?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, at least 10% of the Storm Troopers thing was fans holding on a little too tight to the idea that every storm trooper needs to be clones that look like Temuera Morrison.

I know no one wants to hear the ol' 'Not all ----!' argument right now, but the Star Wars fandom is absolutely freaking enormous, and not entirely comprised of lonely racist white guys. Generalizing a fandom that spans worldwide as racist is really pushing it. ESPECIALLY considering the "racist" backlash over the casting of women and minorities in the new film was revealed to be massive trolling orchestrated by some bored assholes. Some actual racists latched on, but the trending hashtag was a big prank.

But whatever. I'm actually conditioned to be more trusting and sympathetic to non-white non-male characters, but that's just me. Of course.

Yeah, this. And the US isn't the only country where Star Wars is big. I think Japan has the biggest fandom ever, Star Wars is everywhere. The racist backlash comes from a minority of basement dwellers, that's it.

given by the time A New Hope is set, Storm Troopers are conscripted from all over the galaxy. Storm Troopers can't be black is mildly hysterical. All Storm Troopers can't be are ALIENS.

Because.. Imperials are racist that way.

I am now glad I'm not paying too much attention to the hype around this new film.

Lupita Nyongo is in the new movie??? Awesome. She's amazing. :D

Haven't played TOR (though I like the idea of it!), just here to say I really like his character design and am still waiting for a KOTOR 3. :(

I don't think there's any hope left now that Knights of the Fallen Empire is out. Whatever Obsidian was going to do with the story poofed out of existence once BioWare/EA/LucasFilm set a certain canon about Revan etc. in stone. :/

Bah, I didn't know about this expansion! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as there had already been a canon ending for Revan (way) before it.

I've been denying it for a long ass time though... and will probably continue to do so, lol.

I feel like earlier this year (or maybe last year?) I read that BioWare was still interested in a KOTOR3; that they still thought about it occasionally, but it hadn't really come together. I wouldn't mind playing as someone new completely unrelated to Revan, but a new single-player KOTOR game would be amazing.

I know how unlikely it is at this point, though. :/

I think that was Obsidian, actually - and it got my hopes up too (as did the rumors about Obsidian working on something big). But alas, I doubt they'll be permitted to do anything now that the official canon is already set. :/

Was it? Huh, I thought it was BioWare...

No matter who it was, it made me a bit hopeful, though I have a strong feeling that the hope was in vain.

Couldn't they use an entirely different cast/do a different story? With all the Star Wars films on the horizon now would be the perfect time to do another SW game.

There's just not much fic or art for TOR in general, I looked and yep I ship the bloke with my male gunslinger >.> .

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, he's pretty though.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
More than likely. I think I have a single friend who even romanced him, and there is no talk of him being shipped with any of the other companions. I understand that Theron has a lot more build up, and other companions have more history, but Koth is way too hot to be ignored the way he is.

I also think Iresso would be way more popular if he were white/coded as white- he's got a nice personality and the romance between him and the Consular has a lot of really adorable moments, but he gets almost no love in fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
My female Consular rode Iresso like a pony. He's super sweet, and a lot less OOH-RAH REPUBLIC than a lot of the military-types are, which is a nice change of pace. Plus, the other female Consular romance is Creepster Extraordinaire Tharan Cedrax *shudder*.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW that people dislike Koth because he's black, because I have straight-up seen them admit it in Zakuul/Odessen Gen Chat. I think my favorite was "I hate Koth because I hate being forced to use a and seeing much agreement from others *right click, Report!*

I think he and Senya are really interesting, though. Koth does have a certain blind allegiance to Valkorian, because he hasn't seen the bad side of Vitiate, so that makes me wonder what'll happen in future chapters, if you end up on a mission to, say, Ziost, where he's forced to confront the fact that Valkorian/Vitiate isn't the saint he thinks he is. Senya's got a little more nuance, where she can appreciate Valkorian's efforts to make Zakuul great, but she's seen the bad side of him too, and has seen the toxicity he's leeched out into Arcann and Vaylin (and Thexan too, I suppose).

I definitely plan to romance Koth at some point. If nothing else, for hopes of future montages with glorious '70s music.
