Songs that make you cry

(Anonymous) 2015-12-03 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
When I hear the version of "White Christmas" sung during the movie "White Christmas" it's tough to hold back the tears. But if I hear Mr. Bing Crosby sing it outside of the movie, I'm fine.

Also, "The Rainbow Connection". Because of Kermit, duh.

What's yours?

Songs that remind me of certain things will make me tear up, but I can't think of any particular song that does it every time for me.

First Christmas by Stan Rogers tends to make me a little misty most of the time though, so I guess I'll count that one.

Sabaton's "En livstid i krig" will always make me cry. Only the Swedish version though. "A Lifetime of War" does not thug at my heartstrings as much.

"Run to You" by Pentatonix can also make me cry on particularily bad days. Josh Groban's version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" too.

Melodies of Life from Final Fantasy IX. I haven't even played the game, but damn, that song.

When I was a little kid, I cried off and on all day the first time I heard One Tin Soldier. I can tell what a hokey song it is now, but sometimes I still want to cry when I think about it just remembering how much it affected me back then.

Well there are a lot of songs that make me cry because I'm a very emotional person and frankly I cannot remember them all.

But one I can think of is Hero by Superchick. It just talks about so many things that are sensitive issues for me and I cannot listen to it without bawling.

God Is An Astronaut's "Coda" is an almost guaranteed tearjerker if I hadn't heard it in a while.

Actually, a lot of tracks from God Is An Astronaut, Exxasens and Rosetta kinda give me that lump in the throat feeling. I fucking love these bands so much.

"Replica" by Sonata Arctica once made me almost-cry. It's a very depressing song. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4yjpT8dkLw)

If we're counting instrumental stuff, "Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten" has made me actually cry for real. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp2oxWdRMuk)

As did "Jade Mother" from the Homestuck soundtrack. Half because it's so beautiful and half because of the character it refers to... Godfuckingdamnit, Dolorosa, your life was so tragic. ;_; (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKQqQ3152QQ)

Arvo Part, Fratres
Beethoven, Symphony #7, Second Movement

Put either of those in a scene and I'd be bawling.

Clint Mansell had some superlative moments in Mass Effect 3 that are almost worth dragging yourself through hours of bad plotting for.

"Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel, from the Watership Down movie. That song makes me cry anytime I hear it, especially the Gregorian chant cover of it. It reminds me of all the loved ones I've lost.

The majority of the LOTR soundtracks, but atm I'm thinking of In Dreams and Into the West and getting all teary eyed. UGH.

Also, because of In The Flesh, most anything by Keaton Henson. Especially "You" though; that song destroys me now.

Ohhhhh, lots. Since my mom died, I cannot listen to the Puccini aria "O Mio Babbino Caro" (since that was the ringtone on her phone), the Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work," or Stevie Nicks' "Ghosts."

When I was a little kid, I would cry at Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle," and If's "Bread." I can't imagine I knew what they were about at that age, but evidently the music alone just got me.

Sometimes I cry not out of sadness but from being emotionally overwhelmed by really intense or really joyful music, like Mahalia Jackson singing "How I Got Over" or when in church we sang "Be Not Afraid." I have clear memories of anxiously checking the hymn board each week as my family walked into the church to see if "Be Not Afraid"'s number in the missalette (7) was up there. "How Great Thou Art" makes me cry on occasion, too.

"I'll Be Home for Christmas," no matter who the artist is.

"Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head" Sometime around "Stars were glowing" I turn into a fountain.

"No Time." I had to sing this once in choir, what a mess.

"Mirror in Mirror" by Arvo Paart. It just sounds like a premonition of death.

Oddly enough, it's both the JP theme and the Indiana Jones theme. And I know there's another one, but I'm having a brain fart at the moment. :C

"Somewhere Out There," but the version heard in American Tail, not the romantic version they played during the credits.
