Re: Stopping Zocor

Most of the conventional wisdom on stopping statin medications seems to be that it can be safely done "cold turkey", but that it is preferable to stop by tapering the dosage. For example: taking half a tablet for four days, 1/4 of a tablet for four days, and then 1/8 for four days before stopping completely.

Tapering is usually done to ameliorate serious withdrawal side effects, and though there aren't many that are currently associated with statin drugs, there can be situations where tapering is indicated in patients who are experiencing certain side effects such as short term memory loss.

Personally, I would ask your doctor about whether or not your current health concerns would make it necessary for you to taper your dosage, OP.
