Re: What is the appeal of big muscles?

I don't know that this is the kind of thing easily explained...you either like it or you don't. Like, why do some people like blond hair over brown hair, or red hair over black? It's so subjective; I wouldn't even know how to begin describing it.

But then again I've been attracted to people with little muscle, and I've been attracted to people that are all muscle. (I'm thinking of Hemsworth and Evans as I type this.)

After a certain point I think I would be uninterested, but all in all it really depends on the person; there are a lot of in-shape actors out there with muscles that aren't super bulky. (Thinking of Hugh Dancy in Hannibal right now both because of #5 and because I've been on a Hannibal kick for quite a while now. So much of fandom acts like Hugh Dancy is a delicate flower but that guy is damn fit and has some nice, compact muscle.)

Exactly. Attraction is subjective and personal. Sometimes there may be conscious reasons, but I think most of the time we just like what we like. It isn't like I think muscles are innately more attractive anymore than I think blonde hair is innately more attractive. Those are just things that attract me.

And totally agree on Hemsworth and Evans. Those two are about the ideal in terms of what I like. Not much more than that, but also not a whole lot less.

Sometimes there may be conscious reasons, but I think most of the time we just like what we like.

That's how I feel. I believe most either find it visually appealing or don't, and that's the important factor.

Personally, I have looked at muscular guys and thought, "Wow, they could man-handle me easily", and that's a thing. To some people that would be a turn off instead of a turn on, so like you say, it's an extremely personal thing.

For the most part though, I just like the look of muscle. It doesn't have to be bulky, and I think Hemsworth and Evans are actually more muscular than most men I find attractive; I tend to like slimmer guys with subtle, solid muscles just as well (if not more, in some cases). And women can rock muscle too, of course. (I saw a picture of Natalie Dormer on tumblr today and was surprised at how fit her legs looked. Surprised, and pleased.)
