Re: What is the appeal of big muscles?

Even in predominantly female spaces, there's still considerable pressure to NOT express attraction to unconventional beauty. So drooling over say, Chris Evans will mean lots of sincere agreement and positive reinforcement for your opinion, but drooling over someone who falls outside those conventions will get you a lot of negative reinforcement so people tend to keep quiet. In public, at least. In fandom spaces where people of like mind group together, people will tend to be more open about their preferences. Look at Benedict Cumberbatch-- a lot of people think he's got a face like a foot, but there are hundreds if not thousands of women who'd gladly polish his knob without a second's hesitation.

I don't think people are lying about being so "enlightened" (although I don't regard it as being enlightened, only as being human) as to be attracted to people society doesn't find hot. It's obvious people are thus attracted if you just look around you in the real world. Are all the married/partnered men you know smoking hotties with washboard abs? Of course they aren't. But somehow, they still find girlfriends and wives who love them, lust after them, and want to spend their lives with them. Ditto how not all partnered/married women are size 2 supermodels with D-cups and perfect skin.
