Re: Party food
Also I usually put things like Endive and mushrooms and radishes and whatnot on there, along with the generic carrot/celery/cherry tomato/broccoli/cauliflower etc. because I am very serious about my vegetable platters.
I have also never bought one premade because THE HORROR.

Re: Party food
Re: Party food
1/2 bell pepper = $0.20
1/2 head broccoli = $0.40
1/4 head cauliflower = $0.35
1 endive = $0.78
3 green onions = $0.30
3 carrots = $0.40
3 sticks celery = $0.35
1 box cherry tomatoes = $1.69
Prices approximate, generally sale priced since I very rarely buy things that aren't on sale. So.... the cherry tomatoes are the big expense, really. The rest of the stuff I just use later to make other things with. Depending on the party I also have 2-3 other food choices around so it's not like I make a vegetable tray fit to feed an army lol.
Re: Party food
Though, I'm seeing where the difference is; you're assuming you've already bought the bags of veggies, and you're just portioning out the amount you're using? Like, one bag = $1.20 with nine carrots, so technically for the platter, you're only using $0.40 of carrot. On my end, I live alone, so buying a whole bag of carrot isn't really economical, unless I'm using them for a party or something, in which case I'd have to buy the whole bag, and it wouldn't matter how much the party platter technically cost, I still spent money on the whole bag of carrots.
Re: Party food
Wait. Wait. Don't they sell carrots like... by the carrot where you live?! You actually have to buy a whole bag??! D:
What is this madness?!
Re: Party food
I mean, you can buy carrots by the carrot, if you're buying the expensive gourmet organic ones? But then the price/carrot is too expensive for me, you know? It adds up, even when I wish it didn't. :(
Re: Party food
The kinds of bell peppers we have are the pricy organic ones and he sweet bagged kinds and those can run you around $4-5 a bag for 3-5 peppers. However, the ones I get are $2.49/lb which works out to around $0.70-0.80 for one medium bell pepper.
...I now wish I could send you some peppers because there's clearly some produce witchcraft going on.
Re: Party food
I'm 99.9% sure it's because I'm in a college town, so they jack up the prices, but that might be my bitter student ass talking.
I wish. I like bell peppers. Except when they're moldy. :(
Re: Party food
Re: Party food
or get my Mum to buy it, because everything around here is so expensive. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻.Re: Party food
Otherwise I'm pretty sure I would have never made it through my degree lol.
Re: Party food
I meant, less perishable Important Things, like, bras, socks, clothing, stuff like that. Unfortunately, Walmart is the only place I have found that has bras in both (a) my size and (b) price range. There is a nice store in my hometown that sells them, but they run in the $40~$50 range which is a bit much for me.
