I used to defend my fandom friends and say they really were my friends.

But looking back, about half of them were terrible people. And many of them were not my friends in the least.

I think that's pretty typical. Friendships and loyalties change over time. Hopefully for the better.

Same. Found this out when I stopped pretending to agree with all of their tastes in our shared fandoms.
