If you're ONLY doing it for them, yeah, you're doing it wrong.

But if you think most writers won't get discouraged if they wrote a 10.000 words fic and get no feedback at all, you live on a very different plain of existence.

But the thing is, unless you're writing in a very small fandom, or for a widely hated pairing, if your fic doesn't suck you will get feedback. Maybe not a thrillingly large avalanche of it, but you'll get some.
