lol It's okay OP. My cat likes to sleep directly on my butt when I go to bed. I have no idea why, it's just where he likes to be.

Pets are weird.

Maybe because it's the highest spot? One of my cats always wants to be on the highest spot too.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-12-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Highest or warmest, I dunno. I don't understand his motives since he invariably gets pushed off when I roll over, but every night it's back to his favorite spot lol.

Wait are you writing/typing while laying down? If so how?

Seconded. How in the world....?
bur: Mami looking kind of surprised at something off to the side. (Surprised Mami)

If you have a laptop you can type on it while laying down by resting the laptop on your belly. You just need to double-up on pillows to support your upperback/shoulders and neck. It's pretty comfy. I hammered out a couple of NaNo's and many a grad report this way.

Considering how hot my daughter's laptop gets, that doesn't sound comfortable, but maybe they're not all like that?
bur: There was a comic where Daredevil gets, well, gang-beered. And here's a panel. (Daredevil SPLATT)

My older ones made it so my stomach looked like it had permanent sunburn, but the ones I've had lately (those thin, ultraportable types) stay pretty cool. No more burn marks!

I'm amused that the person above actually had to spell it out. It's not rocket science, people. lol

But if OP is propped up how does is the cat sleeping against OP's ear on the pillow? What angle is optimal for that? I use my laptop in bed all the time, but to prop myself up enough to type comfortably makes it impossible for any of my cats to lay in the way OP describes their cat doing. A cat that tried that would either be more on my shoulder than the pillow, or they would have to be behind my head. That's what has me confused.

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have chronic back pain that renders me pretty useless, so much of my life has been devoted to making myself comfortable in my bed-prison lol. I use a laptop pillow in order to prop my laptop up to a comfortable writing position, and my head just lays back as per-usual on a pillow. I bring the screen to me, in essence, not the other way around (leveling my back/head in order to type at a downward angle instead of upwards). My one cat sleeps against my head, and the other takes residence on my genitals. :D

Awww That has to awful. It's great you found a way to use your laptop comfortably.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah that might not be the best posture but rock on op that's what being a pet owner is like

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine crawls up until she can nestle like a baby on the arm, belly exposed for petting. But she doesn't want to admit that belly scratching makes her drool with joy, so she has to (carefully) bite my hand and give a few kicks for show, until the feeling of rrrubbbingg wipes her mind and resistance away. Love that weirdo hairball.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But how on earth are you writing then? Unless you're just coming up with scenarios in your head, then I can understand that. But as it is, you're coming off as 'look at how crazy and random I am guys.'

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus christ, I mentioned how I do it it a little further above but really? "Look how lazy and random I am?" Like I thought I didn't have much of a life because of chronic pain but thank god I'm not low enough that I accuse people of making secrets because they want to live our their misguided manic pixie dream girl fantasies.

da Don't worry, OP. At some point, the anon you replied to Will Learn what it's like.

I sleep with a cat at my feet and one on my pillow (or halfway under the covers/on the pillow). The third one refuses to be on the bed at all, the goof. Cats - the ultimate animate, furry hot-water bottles.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, that's cute! :D Cats are the best.

Also, I don't get the comments that are wondering how the OP writes while lying down. Is it really that strange and hard to imagine? Like, my brother almost always uses his laptop while lying down, and I've written fanfic on my phone and my tablet while in bed. What's the mystery? I thought pretty much everyone did it these days? o.O

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the only reason I don't still do it is that it was bad for my wrists, but otherwise it was very comfy!

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeahh this is confusing me too, like maybe it's just 'normal' to me because of the situation that warrants it (chronic pain) but like...I didn't think this would be the weird mini-mystery of the secret batch. :P

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I still sit at a desk simply because I don't have a laptop or tablet of my own, but if and when I do get one of those, yeah, I'll do the same thing, too. I don't find that setup weird at all, either.

I too love the story about the cats. I love how cats are like, "I'm just gonna lay in this totally random spot now, okay? Cool." I love how snuggly they can get, too, when they really want to cuddle <3.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
I can't even tell you how much fanfic I've written on my laptop while sprawled out in my bed. And I too kind of assumed most people spent at least some time in bed on a computer or tablet before going to sleep or before getting up in the morning. Apparently not...
