It's a bit of both for me, I think. I like seeing women kick ass in media because men have been kicking ass in media forever and we just don't see it as often with women. (Though it is becoming increasingly more regular.) It makes me feel good to see my gender represented in that way. (Even if a lot of the time it's ridiculous; most actiony characters do have impossible talent and abilities, no matter their gender. However, I'm generally okay with that.)

Plus, yea, like you, I'm not exactly a tough or daring person. (Mostly I'm quiet and scared of making a fool of myself or pissing someone off. Sigh.) I look up to and respect characters who are brave and decisive and who are competent as fuck and have fun doing what they do. Sometimes that's exactly what I want out of media.

This is me, too. I'm very much all about keeping the peace and not making people upset. And I usually stay quiet until I feel truly comfortable around them.

There's nothing wrong with being a peacekeeper sort in stressful situations, of course. Just...sometimes circumstances do call for someone calling a jerk out on their crap, and some people are way better at doing that than me. They always know the right thing to come back with, and I might think of a clever, snarky remark...days after the event :p.

And then I'm not a very physically strong person, either. So I definitely identify with the OP, too.

Both those descriptions fit me pretty well too.

To make matters even more awkward, my desire not to rock the boat once caused me to rock the boat. A teacher of mine in college called me out on being too...I guess the word would be "haughty" in class discussions. But what she saw as me making a statement and then leaning back in my seat as if the matter was closed was actually me tentatively offering an opinion and then physically moving away from the discussion to open the floor up to other people. That critique surprised me greatly, I can tell you.

And I usually stay quiet until I feel truly comfortable around them.

Exactly! Once I'm comfortable with someone I can speak my mind more easily, but I struggle with people I barely know or don't like.

Just...sometimes circumstances do call for someone calling a jerk out on their crap, and some people are way better at doing that than me.

Same. I'll do it when I feel it's necessary, but I feel like other people are probably more...efficient about it.

And then I'm not a very physically strong person, either.

I have trouble opening jars so I feel you on that one.
