Don't kid yourself, OP. MakoHaru fandom was just as bad as RinHaru. The only side I saw that wasn't wanky was the SeiGou side.

Another side that it isn't wanky is the RinRei one, probably because it's just too small for that.

I mentioned above that the MakoHaru side was terrible at times too, but nothing so...vitriolic as the Rin/Haru side. I'm speaking from actually dealing with the people in the fandom over this shit too. I had a free! themed blog that had a decent amount of followers, and people flipped their shit.

The only non-wanky people were the Rin/Nitori shippers but they got continually shit on because...apparently they're the most delusional out of a show that wasn't going to confirm any ships.

Aaand in the second season the SouMomo crowd built up a small but surprisingly loyal and non-wanky fanbase.
