Talk About Your Small Fandoms

(Anonymous) 2015-12-05 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Change the subject. No one may reply to you, but that is the sacrifices you make for small fandoms. Just talk about them and hope!

Legend of the Seeker

I miss this fandom. Although the fandom was tiny even when the show was on, it was pretty active even for a few years after the show ended. And then it slowly died. There were so many amazing people in this fandom. I really miss them.

I just started watching this show about two month ago because someone here made it sound like the sort of thing I'd love.

For once I'm glad I have so much practice being a lurker in fandom! There's a great backlog of fan works to catch up on, but not much new stuff being produced. Everything is so dead... :(

It really is. The Darken Rahl com that was super active died a couple years ago. The general coms all died before that. And the Landcom finally died a few months ago.

I still love the show, though.

Isn't that the extreme libertarian, Ayn Rand worshipping, weirdo fandom with the torture porn in it?

The book series very much is (though I personally enjoyed the first 4 books that had a lot less of the Ayn Rand crap). But the tv show took out most of the creepy philosophy. The torture porn is still there, though muted down.

I watched more fanvids than I read fic in that fandom (anyone have recs? I looked a while back for some Kahlan/Cara and found a couple good ones, but that's about it), and never even knew there was an active LJ community until after the show was almost over. I'm disappointed that I missed out on it.

I miss the show itself though. (There's nothing currently on air like it.) I've been wanting to rewatch it for a long ass time, but there's so many other things I want to do as well. Hopefully I can get around to it in the next few months...

There were a few general Seeker coms that were generally active. The most active com, though, was the People's Palace, the Darken community. It was run mostly by one fan who kept things going with challenges and things. It was a pretty fun place. I really miss it.

That's where I am in terms of rewatching. It is on my list, but there are so many other things I want to watch as well.

I lurked at a general Seeker comm for a little while, looking for icons and fanvids and the like. I remember a lot of 'gay for Kahlan' posts (which I greatly appreciated). Despite really enjoying Craig Parker's acting I not that into Rahl. However, I won't deny that he is pretty.

For me it isn't even just new things, it's other old things! (Like right now, with Star Wars.) Or completing things I haven't had a chance to yet. (Like Dragon Age: Inquisition. I own the DLC, but I haven't got to play all of it yet.) There isn't enough time for everything...

Oh, me too. There are old things I want to rewatch and new things. So much stuff I want to watch. And yes, the Star Wars feels. I'm determined to watch all 6 again before the new one comes out.

Gay for Kahlan was a big thing. Which, since she was a big part of me finally admitting to myself I was bi, and since Bridget is so amazingly gorgeous, I totally get.

I just really like villains. And Craig Parker is gorgeous.

I'm trying to get through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic again right now (one of my favorite RPG's!), but after that I plan to rewatch all six films. If I can't get through KOTOR in time, I will abandon it and watch the films instead. (Then come back to it after.) It's been a blast, though.

I get it too because there are few women I'm as attracted to as Bridget Regan. Also, she's that series biggest asset for me. (Cara is also a major one, but when it comes down to it...fuck, I have a thing for Kahlan.)

I agree! He was good as Haldir, and he was an awful (but fantastic) villain in Spartacus.

I'll never understand why I couldn't do Spartacus. How, nearly naked men? Why did I not love this thing. But I barely made it through two episodes and then stopped.

Sometimes things just don't click for us. I think Spartacus got much better later on, but I couldn't tell you how much later and frankly, if you don't have interest in trying it again that's fine. It was one of those things I found enjoyable the whole way through but it was ridiculous. Just...ridiculous in a way that appealed to me.

I remember when you linked to those vids here! They were great, I've got them all bookmarked.

Here are some other ones that I like:

Ooo, thanks! I meant fanfic, but I will (gladly) take either! (And honestly, depending on the characterization in the fanfic...sometimes I find fanvids just as enjoyable.)

The OT3 one looks fun!

(NGL, now that I've mentioned them I'll probably spend half an hour watching all the LOTS fanvids I've saved. If not now, tomorrow, lol.)

AYRT

...oops, my bad.

Here is some fic.

They're all Kahlan/Cara or Kahlan/Cara/Richard, except for the last one, which I'm including because it's funny.

No, not bad! Like I said, I enjoy both! (And haven't had much time to look for fic lately, so it's all the more welcome! I am bookmarking this. You are lovely, anon!)

Kahlan/Cara is my jam, but I'm also fond of Richard/Kahlan so although the Richard/Cara angle doesn't do much for me atm, I will give it a shot! (And hopefully enjoy it just as much.)

SAYER (the podcast)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-12-05 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anyone else listened to this? I love the production value and how creepy it all is. I can't wait for each episode to reveal more of the plot (I am being vague to encourage people to listen).

SAYER is like WTNV meets Portal!

Slightly Damned (spoilers)

[personal profile] feotakahari 2015-12-06 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Was this arc ghostwritten by Tarol Hunt? The city's in flames, everybody's dying, Kieri just told Buwaro he's weak and abandoned him, and I'm pretty sure Kazai going to wind up as a fanatical villain if he survives this.

Indian Summers

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Did anyone watch this?

If so, what was your opinion of it? Do you think it addressed the relationships of the time and place well? Was it overdone? Can we discuss spoilery things, if anyone responds?

As a disclaimer, I'm not from India, nor am I from England, and I would rather claim my knowledge of the history/cultural relations between these two countries during the period the show tackles is elementary.

Serious things aside, which pairings are you favorites and why? Any characters that you found interesting/where you'd like to see them progress in the show?

Old Hollywood

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I've written fic The Bishop's Wife, Philadelphia Story, and Gone with the Wind. I am also the only person on AO3 to have written fic for Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin and Bob Hope/Bing Crosby. Old movies still have plenty of shippy moments too, you know!
