It's also about writing fanfic, which is more than enough justification

and cats are weird

It just says fic. It could literally mean anything, the way people use the term. I've seen more than one person call a published paper book a fic.

So if someone talks about their TV-watching habits you would say it's not fandom because it might, really, be about Toyota commercials?

Re: Really?

If they made any effort to connect it to fandom (Watching Dr Who, writing Destiel, waving remote at TV making lightsaber noises), it would be fandom. If a TV appeared in the secret because LOL! A cat did a funny thing in the same room as the TV! It's not fandom.

But the writer is talking about the action of writing fic, which is present in the secret. Fic is by nature fandomy, unless you are going to say that "watching TV" is not fandom because surely, logically, within the context of fandomsecrets and a fandom site, they would mean they are watching something like FOX News? That's a large leap.

At least two people including me are disagreeing with you, so... *shrug* your opinion is your opinion.

I've seen more than one person call a published paper book a fic.

Don't use idiots to set terminology. People use the term "original fic" to refer to original writing and "fic" to refer to fanfic, which is perfectly clear.

I'm not suggesting they're using it correctly, merely that it is used by them. How am I to know whether the secret maker is using it correctly?

"Well, they might be talking about cats, but they might also be talking about something completely different! How do I know they're using it correctly?" <--- You right now

The context fits with them using fic correctly, and the secret wasn't failbar-ed. Leave it be.

IA this is stupid. Nitpicker anon would probably call a secret not fandom because someone talks about their favorite book but doesn't mention that it's fiction, so it could be a math textbook, and people say book to mean textbook sometimes, so it's not fandom!!!1

agreeing with yourself is tacky btw

Re: Really?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the anon in the thread above that's agreeing with the one in this thread. If you think two people couldn't possibly disagree with nitpicker anon though, there's no real point in trying to convince you.

Assumimg the person agreeing with someone you disagree with is just same-anoning is also tacky and shows immaturity.

Grow the fuck up.
