So single men don't deserve to be rescued from persecution? I don't think there should be qualifications. As many people as can be taken should be taken regardless of category. We aren't taking them because of what they can do for us. We are taking them because they are refugees and victims fleeing horror of a kind we can't even imagine and it would be immoral not to take as many as we can.

I mean - we're living in a world where there will be a cap on how many refugees the US will take. Far below the number of refugees that exist. Given that fact, I don't think it's wrong to do some kind of priority assignment for refugees. It's essentially the equivalent of triage, right? Everyone deserves help, but since we're not going to help everyone, we have to decide who we're going to help.

And "families first" really doesn't seem too crazy as an ordering principle.

Single men are probably in a far better position to take care of themselves and considerably less in need of rescuing than most other groups of refugees, like children, elderly people, or parents with dependent children.
