I like all of the above, but I do read more smutty fics than anything else. And I'm okay with this. Like what you like, OP. there is nothing wrong with that.

There's nothing wrong with that, OP.

I don't really read gen atm.

I really like meta, though, both online and offline if I'm luck to find a victim.

I mostly just read fics for h/c or sex, though.

I enjoy meta and GEN but I am much more into reading shippy stuff(smut or not), it' just how I do fandom. So do it how you want as well, ain't nothing wrong with that.

I alternate. Sometimes I scroll through the plot because I want to get to the sex. Other times I skim through the smut because the plot is way more engaging and I want to know what happens next.

If that's what you like, that's fine.

I LOVE deep discussions and meta, but for specific fandoms. There are plenty of fandoms I enjoy but don't have the same enthusiasm for or don't have as much to say about. Not every piece of media is exactly complex enough for you to pick apart and speculate endlessly about either.

Gen fic is good too, but I almost never see it.

So yea, the vast majority of fic I read is ship fic, and I feel like that's the case for quite a lot of fandom.

I'm the same. I love deep discussion, but not for everything.

I can't get that worked up about everything. Doesn't necessarily mean I enjoy it less, just...well, I don't have as many thoughts about it.

And media that isn't clear-cut and leaves things open to interpretation is often much easier to chat about in length. That or things that raise moral questions, or that challenge you to look at something from a different POV.

This is me always

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll pass on the deep discussions and meta, but I'd like more gen. I just don't read much of it because there is so little for my fandoms and the quality isn't always there.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that feel, anon. I ended up writing sex scenes in half of the chapters of what was supposed to be a mystery AU :P

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't this the majority of fandom though...

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to ride the fandom superiority-complex about gen fic, but TBH I'm in the same boat as you are, anon. I'd rather have some good shipfic than some half-decent gen fic.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
This statement is a bit silly. Who wouldn't prefer {well-written x] to {crappily-written y}?

I'd kill for some good gen fic, but the problem isn't that existing gen fic is crappy, but that there's a haystack of shipfic and only a few needles of gen fic. You have to look harder to find the gems.

Sturgeon's Law applies to everything.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing wrong with that, OP! I like both ship!fic and gen!fic, but I generally tend to gravitate to the shippy stuff too.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I want all of it, but the deal breaker would be lack of shippy stuff for me. Some people just do fandom like that, OP.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
You and 99.9% of my dying fandom. *sigh*
